Original 1960’s New York “Walk, Don’t Walk” Street Sign
#0038
This is an original 1960’s “Walk, Don’t Walk” Eagle KB Series pedestrian sign, which was originally yellow, but latterly painted yellow by NY city workers to cut down on visual distractions for oncoming vehicle traffic (black visors absorb sunlight better and minimise sun phantom glare) or because a municipality updated its municipal code to standardise all downtown fixtures to black.
It has been completely rewired and “PAT” tested. We have also fitted individual switches so that either illumination can be turned on and off independently.
We have made an aluminium swivel mounting bracket for the light so that it can be easily mounted to either a pillar or wall (as shown).
- The Body: The housing is cast from a rugged aluminum alloy, designed to withstand severe weather.
- The Shades (Visors): While earlier 1950s variants utilized heavy cast-metal visors, Eagle introduced molded plastic (polycarbonate) tunnel visors in the 1960s. This hybrid architecture drastically reduced the weight of the signal head, preventing the mounting brackets from sagging over time
